Rocketing the Christmas Tree

My three grandkids (ages 5, 5, and 3) flew in from Boston yesterday with their parents and are here for the holidays. When I came downstairs this morning at 7am, the kids were already up and playing a game called “Let’s throw Hot Wheels cars at the shiny Christmas tree bulbs.”

They were very good at it.

By the time I reached the bottom landing, they had already scored twice. I think I found all the glass shards but didn’t have time to sift through the branches for cars because I had to grab our plunger and rush off to an even more pressing crisis.

My dog, who isn’t used to having such fast and loud and small people around, just sat in silence and watched the chaos unfold from the safety of the couch. The coward. This is the last time we’re putting him in charge of the early-morning shift.

This is, undoubtedly, the most wonderful time of the year.
